REASONS FOR UNENDING SEXUAL SCANDAL IN HIGHER INSTITUTION

Nigerian higher institutions are citadel of learning where many great men in the society were made. They are universities, polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education. Most Nigerian parents always want their children to go there, though only few are able to afford it. However, there are many known scandals in these higher institutions of learning which include bribery, campus prostitution, cultism, sexual harrassment and lecturers demand for sexual gratification from female students. The most controversial among them is lecturers demand for sexual gratification.
Although sexual scandal among lecturers and students is seen as norm in Nigerian higher institutions, it’s not accepted by Nigerians. Several cases of sexual harrassment by lecturers have been published and many videos of these scandals went viral on social media. Despite these cases, many lecturers still demand for sexual gratification before their female students can pass. Most female students that refused their demand would either fail or get low score that is below what they deserved.
Obviously, there are different reasons for sexual harrassment and demand for sexual gratification in Nigerian higher institutions. Below are three major reasons.
1. Immoral dress of female students
It’s no more news that higher institution is a free world for many ‘get inside girls’ to dress as they like. These are girls that can’t dress anyhow at home. Some female students also wear these ‘free b**bs show’ dresses to prove that they are big girls, while some wear such dresses to advertise their campus prostitution business known as ‘runz’. Moreover, these dresses always cause sexual arousal for lecturers and students. Although some institutions in Nigeria are trying to go against such dresses, they are yet to curb them.
2. Some lecturers with spiritual and moral bankrupt hearts
Some lecturers who are involved in the act always give a flimsy excuse that they’re seduced by their female students. In fact, some will even say it’s normal for female students and lecturers to date. Frankly, these excuses and many others are useless. It’s because they are with both spiritual and moral bankrupt hearts. There are other lecturers who are seeing these female students but they don’t demand for sexual gratification.
3. Little or no punishment for the culprits
Lecturers in higher institutions can easily fail female students that refused their demand for sexual gratification because their is no punishment to be meted out on defaulting lecturers and there is no how students could possibly get justice if harassed by staff of their institution. In most cases, management will only tell the lecturer to sin no more or punish both lecturer and the student.
Nevertheless, the truth must be told. Female students that dress half-naked should apply modesty to their dress. This will reduce sexual arousal and lust that may lead to demand for sexual gratification. Lecturers should also remember their spiritual and moral teachings. Moreover, there should be punishment for any lecturer that sexually harrassed female student or failed female student because of sexual gratification. Advisedly, female students should stop running after lecturers for marks. Always prepare very well for your exams to avoid begging for marks. These would drastically reduced the act in our higher institutions.
Furthermore, this act need to stop in our higher institutions because many innocent girls had fallen into it in order not to fail. Most of these lecturers don’t demand for sexual gratification from immoral dressed girls alone but they also demand for it from decent girls. This is contributing to the breeding of non-baked female graduates and it reduces the value of Nigerian female students. We need to join hands to end this sexual scandal in our higher institutions.
