Toxins Contained In Your Toothpaste And Why You Shouldn't Swallow It

There are tons of bad stuff in your toothpaste. If you read the label, the ingredients list may seem innocuous. What’s worse is that the toothpaste companies don’t really explain what’s lurking in their products.
It pays to be a wise consumer. Inspect your toothpaste and stay away from products that contain the following ingredients:

1. Fluoride
Most toothpastes are rich in fluoride and this ingredient is advertised to effectively prevent tooth decay. What many of us don’t know is that fluoride is bad as it is a byproduct of industrial
waste . Instead of fluoride, choose dentin and theobromine, which is a cacao extract.

2. Saccharin
Some toothpastes taste good – even though you’re not really going to eat them. Together with other artificial sweeteners, saccharin can harm your teeth and even your health. Artificial sweeteners can give you symptoms, such as ear buzzing, nausea, headaches, weakness, and many others.

3. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
SLS can cause cancer! This surfactant’s main job is to thicken the toothpaste and gives you that foaming action in your mouth. Although it can dissolve plaque, it is a skin irritant . Aside from that, it pollutes water and can kill aquatic animals. It’s like you’re using pesticide in your mouth.

4. Triclosan
Like fluoride, this is a common ingredient in many toothpastes. It is also used in skin care products, such as deodorants and facial washes. It is also present in toilet fixtures, laundry detergents, and hand sanitizer. It can kill bacteria and fungi, but it can also cause health problems as it impedes the function of the thyroid gland. It may also disrupt the endocrine and is believed to cause cancer as well.

5. Propylene Glycol
A type of mineral oil that is actually an alcohol, propylene glycol is used as an ingredient in paints, varnishes, and engine coolants. But the one used in toothpaste is a pharmaceutical grade, which serves as a surfactant. The EPA treats this ingredient as toxic, so it should be handled using goggles and protective clothing. But you’re putting it in your mouth and this can cause very serious health problems.
Although you probably already have your favorite brand of toothpaste, make sure you read the ingredients list first before you buy. Don’t trust a brand that has any of the ingredients mentioned above. Instead, use an all-natural toothpaste powder or use natural ingredients, such as baking soda and coconut oil.
